Event Location:

  • Hatlen Theater

concert director Monique Meunier

POETRY IN MOTION is an evening-length ballet performance for the preservation of the ever-evolving art form of ballet and continuing education of UCSB dance majors. This inaugural premier ballet concert presents ballet’s strength, beauty, musicality, vulnerability, pyrotechnics, flexibility, and passion. Conceived, curated, and directed by Professor Monique Meunier, POETRY IN MOTION is a culmination of the year’s repertoire practice, pas de deux instruction, ballet technique, and pointe training.

The cast of fifty dancers includes UCSB Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Dance Majors, as well as guest Principal Dancers from Dance Theatre of Harlem and State Street Ballet. The concert will showcase two world premieres by Professor Meunier, including a pas de deux created for Dance Theatre of Harlem artists. In collaboration with lighting designer Studio Professor Vickie J. Scott and Lecturer in Ballet Nilas Martins, POETRY IN MOTION, will enable the audience to witness the art of ballet while supporting the continuing effort of our diligent and inspiring dance majors.

ALL EVENTS ARE CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

In an effort to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in the community, Chancellor Henry Yang announced on Tuesday, March 10th that the UC Santa Barbara campus will be transitioning to remote instruction for the remainder of Winter Quarter and the start of Spring Quarter, through the end of April at the earliest. Even though our students, faculty, and staff worked tirelessly to produce and present spring quarter events, we have to put the safety of our community at the forefront and cancel all spring quarter events unless something significantly changes.

In case we are able to safely present any of our canceled events, we will let you know through our website and email communication (if you want to stay in touch with us during these challenging times please SUBSCRIBE HERE).
