Andrew Pearson is a dance and movement-based educator, performer, and creator, hailed as “one of LA’s finest dance artists” by the LA Chronicle and “known as a provocative choreographer and imaginative presenter” by Cultural Weekly. He has been presenting work in Los Aneles for over 15 years and has been invited to share his work throughout the US as well as at the Gdansk International Dance Festival in Poland. He currently creates and presents work through his performance collective Bodies in Play — a collective he founded in 2017 as a platform to develop new performance events while interrogating existing models for producing dance and theater.
Andrew was a member of LA Contemporary Dance Company for 6 years where he performed, choreographed, and taught workshops, including engagements in Buenos Aires and New York City. While with the company, he had the privilege of working with and performing choreography by heavy-hitters Ryan Heffington, Holly Rothschild, Nina McNeely, and Micaela Taylor, among others. Additional credits include performances with MacArthur Award-winning director Yuval Sharon and the Los Angeles Philharmonic; Julien Prévieux's award-winning What Will They Do Next? at the FIAC Art Faire in Paris; BODYTRAFFIC; and exhibitions at MOCA and LACE.
In addition to his creative work, Andrew teaches guest classes at college programs both nationally and internationally and is currently on faculty at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) and the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as working as the Assistant Director for Saint Mary’s College of California’s LEAP Program. Andrew holds a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of California, Irvine and an MFA in Directing and Choreography from Wilson College.
