About
MAYRA GOMEZ-LABRADA is a feminist Chicana scholar and performance-maker pursuing her doctorate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Whether producing, directing, or writing, her work is grounded in community engagement, uniting practice and scholarship to explore performance as a site of learning and social dialogue. Her body of work investigates representation, cultural production, and aesthetics of defiance on stage and in media, paying particular attention to Latino/a/x and femme bodies. Her current dissertation explores the digital and gender aesthetics of reggaetón and the broader cultural shifts that accompanied the music genre’s rise within U.S. entertainment media.
